I am very guilty of purchasing yarn without a project in mind. I have walked into the yarn store and allowed the yarns to speak to me. I know that I am not the only one that does this. I immediately fall in love and just purchase everything that I think is nice. I stumbled upon this beautifully hand dyed yarn. The color was amazing and I absolutely loved it. I wanted to make this shawl for someone to purchase, however, I cannot part with it. The color alone brings me happiness.
It reminds me of my recent vacation to the Bahamas. I absolutely love this yarn. I apologize for stating this over and over again. So sorry in advance.
Lets get to it.
The yarn in question is a hand dyed yarn by Murray & Co. Wool Goods. When I purchased this from a local NJ yarn store, Do Ewe Knit, I was told that I may not find this yarn color ever again. On that day, I learned what buying indie dyed yarn meant. Since this yarn was special, I needed to find a pattern that would showcase it the best.
The Yarn:
The pattern calls for the use of sock weight yarn. Since I was going off of the yarn that I had, I decided to use the DK weight instead of sock weight yarn.
2 skeins of DK by Murray & Co Wool Goods
Color: Malachite A
100% SW Merino
250 Yards / 116 G
Hand dyed
The hook:
The pattern calls for the use of a 4mm crochet hook. However, I needed to use a 5.5mm since I decided to use a DK weight yarn. You may need to use the crochet hook that feels best with your yarn. The crochet hook that I used is a Furls Crochet Streamline Swirl in the color Andromeda. I love this crochet hook and I do giveaways frequently. However, you can look into getting you one of these lovely crochet hooks by following my affiliate link here. These are my favorite crochet hooks. I feel like I can crochet for hours without experiencing any pain.
The Pattern:
After searching the internet for a nice shawl pattern, I found a free crochet shawl pattern by Dedri Uys. The Pattern can be found here.
My experience:
This was such a nice pattern to work up.
Look how beautiful this shawl looks.
This pattern was very easy to use.
The yarn adds its own uniqueness to the body of this pattern.
I opted to wet block this piece because I like my shawls to drape a lot more. This made the details of the pattern more dramatic.
I can wear this shawl with a nice shirt and a pair of jeans, or I can wear it with a sun dress.
This pattern is completely versatile.
Happy making!!!
Danielle
